Olympic Torch Bearers wanted!

May 19, 2011 at 1:31 PM

You will have seen over the course of the last view days that the route of the olympic torch has been announced. The Torch will pass from Edinburgh through the district and arrive at Alnwick.

For those that don't know, the torch is normally carried by local people who represent youth organisations involved in sport, drama, activities ect. So in that spirit the process to nominate people to carry the torch has begun.

Do you know someone who:
Has inspired you to do something you never thought possible?
Always tries to be the best they can be?
Makes a real difference in their school or local community?
Has shown what it means to be a real friend?
Shows respect for other people and knows the importance of fair play?
You can visit http://www.london2012.com/games/olympic-torch-relay/carrying-the-olympic-flame/nominate-a-torchbearer.php where the process and information is explained in more detail.

You have until the 29th June to nominate anyone who you feel would represent Scouting by playing a part in the torch relay.

There are points to bear in mind;

1. Nominees must be 12 years of age or older on the date they are nominated in order to be eligible for nomination.
2. Nominees must be resident, and have an address, in the British Isles (not including the Republic of Ireland).
3. Where more than one nomination is received for the same person, only one nomination (selected at random) will be considered for the purposes of the nomination process. Torchbearers are only permitted to carry the Torch in one slot on the Torch Relay.
4. You must have obtained the permission of the Nominee to: (i) nominate them; and (ii) supply their personal details, including the nomination story, for the nomination process. You must explain the application process to the Nominee (including the fact that LOCOG will use their contact details to contact them directly if they are successful in the ballot). You may find it helpful to print the nomination process summary above and provide it to the Nominee. Where the Nominee is under 18 years of age on the date of making this nomination, you must inform the Nominee’s parent/guardian of your intention to nominate the Nominee and obtain the parent/guardian’s consent to do so

If you are looking to nominate someone please inform SHQ about this and BCC them into your email to the Olympic Committee. The contact at SHQ is Candace Watermeyer (Communications) and her email is Candyw@scouts-scotland.org.uk. Please also let Neil Burn, ARC Communications on comms@sesscouts.org.uk
