Wild in Botswana 2012

The 2nd training weekend for the 2012 expedition was at Barrwood Campsite.  This went well with the team doing some maintenance work on site as well as spending an afternoon at Blair Drummond Safari Park where they met with some of the rangers.  The rangers were only too willing to tell the expeditioners about some of the animals and reptiles they may come across in Botswana and to answer questions.  Back at camp the team learned a little of the language and did some activities to prepare them for getting the best out of their experience.

A few days after the training weekend, three members of the team flew out to Botswana for a recce.  This was very successful, the members of the Botswana Scout Association (BSA), that the team met, were very enthusiastic about the expedition and very keen to help and support us in the preparation.  The expedition will be based in the north of the country at Maun where the BSA have a large campsite which the Government donated to them.  The expedition members, from the UK and Botswana, will build a training hut on the site and if time and finances allow will also build a toilet and shower block.  They will also have the opportunity to work with some local scouts helping to build houses for the destitute in a local village and to do some voluntary work in a small government owned wildlife park in Maun.
