Development Update

January 17, 2012 at 12:02 PM

As reported in November's newsletter, the bulk of the work carried out last term was primarily focused around the support of starting up new sections. We are delighted to welcome Duns Beaver Colony (based at Longformacus), 3rd Portobello Beaver Scout Colony and a second Cub Scout Pack at the 100th Pentland Scout Group into the South East Region Scouting family! Well done to all volunteers for the great start to your sections - it has been a joy working alongside you.

Last term also included a fair number of university and volunteer recruitment fairs, through which many new volunteers have joined the adventure - welcome! In this new term, we have a few more sections likely to open and are planning a Regional Group Development Day for late February. Below are a few ways to tap into support from the Regional Development Project this term - we'd love to hear from you.

Do you need extra volunteers for your Group?

If you have a gap in your leadership team please, in the first instance, inform your DC. They will then notify Scott Burton (Local Development Officer) and Alan Willoughby (Regional Secretary), after which a number of resources will be at your disposal and you can be supported to recruit new volunteers. We are aware of a number of Groups needing additional volunteers but are sure there are others we could be updated about, so please ensure your DC is up to date so that Scott and Alan are too!

Do you need some extra and specific development support?

Anyone interested in receiving support from the Local Development Officer should fill out and return an "Expression of Interest Form". This process allows us to forward plan and ensure a higher quality of assistance. This form can be downloaded from the Region's website: www.southeastscotlandscouts.org.uk/resources/development-resources

Adult Recruitment at the National Museum of Flight Airshow: 28th July 2012

The National Museum of Flight has invited the Scout Association to be present at their Airshow this year on Saturday 28th July, in part to say 'thank you' for all the visits by Scout Groups throughout the year. We are planning on using this opportunity to promote Scouting and hopefully gain some new adult volunteers! The SHQ Mobile Display Trailer is already booked and so we are now looking to gather a team of people who could give 1-2 hours manning the display alongside Scott. There will also be the opportunity to see the flying display for free for those that get involved! Spaces are limited, so sign up fast. Email development@southeastscotlandscouts.org.uk to register your availability.
