Development Update

A large focus of this term for the Development Project has been working towards the launch of several new sections across the Region. In September, Beavers and Cubs were restarted at the 102nd Inverleith Scout Group after the Group closed in 2010. In November we will see a new Cub Pack at the 100th Pentland Scout Group, a new Beaver Colony as part of Duns Scout Group, and a new Beaver Colony at 3rd Portobello Scout Group. Several opportunities are also being worked on that will hopefully come to fruition early in the new year!

Update your skills on recruiting adults!

An Adult Recruitment Workshop will be run on Thursday 12th January 2012 at the Regional Offices (Valleyfield Street). The evening will include a mixture of up front input, discussion, sharing of good practice and working on real life situations. Groups can send up to 5 people along; a mixture of leaders and/or Group Executive members from each Group would be ideal. Please email development@southeastscotlandscouts.org.uk or phone the office (0131 229 3756) to book your place by 20th December 2011. No cost involved!

Looking for a new programme idea for your section?

Two university groups have offered their time and services to local Scout Groups in Edinburgh. The Teddy Bear Hospital are a charity that seek to familiarise children with a health care setting to make it a less scary experience and to promote health to children. They are particularly focused on working with the Beaver age range. For further info see www.tbhe.org.uk or email tbhe@ed.ac.uk. The other group offering their input is the Edinburgh University Ballroom Dancing Society, who particularly work with the Cub age range but happy to work with others. If you would like to try something different, then email eubdsoc@sms.ed.ac.uk for more info.
