It's...Adult Recruitment

Wednesday 21st September, 7.30-9.30pm, Lasswade High School

Come along to a workshop on Adult Recruitment run by our Local Development Officer. The evening will include a mixture of up front input, discussion, sharing of good practice and working on real life situations. Groups can send up to 5 people along; a mixture of leaders and/or Group Executive members from each Group would be ideal. Please email  development@southeastscotlandscouts.org.uk or phone the office (0131 229 3756) to book your place by 14th September. No cost involved!

Do you have volunteer gaps?

Volunteer Development Scotland (VDS) have a new online website that enables people to find nearby volunteering opportunities. If you would like to advertise a vacant volunteering opportunity through online through VDS, please update your District Commissioner first who will then inform the Local Development Officer. Up to 3 vacant volunteer opportunities per Group can be advertised for a period of 4 months at a time. This can include uniformed and non-uniformed roles.

Do you want some help recruiting young people?

Having tested out a few ideas in the first year of the development project and drawn on others' experience, we have a few ideas to share with Groups and sections that would like to increase their youth membership. Please email development@southeastscotlandscouts.org.uk for more information.

Do you need some extra and specific development support?

Anyone interested in receiving support from the Local Development Officer for the period of October 2011 to January 2012 should fill out and return an "Expression of Interest Form" by 12th September. This process allows us to forward plan and ensure a higher quality of assistance. This form can be downloaded from the Region's website:   www.southeastscotlandscouts.org.uk/resources/development-resources

Looking for a creative idea for your programme?

Through our partnership work with Edinburgh University Volunteer Service we have opened up the avenue to gain some creative ideas for section programmes! At the university there are many societies and they are willing and keen to go out to local groups to share their interest or skill so as to help others learn about them too. For a list of societies and how to contact them, visit the Region's website:  www.southeastscotlandscouts.org.uk/resources/development-resources/university-societies

Looking for some specific help with the Health & Fitness area of the programme?

A new volunteer would like to offer their experience as a PE Teacher and Physio to local groups to aid with the Health & Fitness area of the programme. If you would be interested in support in this part of the programme - maybe to try something new! - then email development@southeastscotlandscouts.org.uk and we can put you in touch.

Regional Media Team

Neil Burn (ARC Communications) and our Local Development Officer have brought together a small Media Team to help increase the profile of Scouting in the South East Region. We are looking to find one or two good news stories each month to “shout out about”, but we need advance notice so that we can schedule it into diaries and begin the background work of engaging with media contacts. So we need to know in advance what is happening locally! Do you have a camp, event, special celebration coming up? Then tell us about it! Please send all information to development@southeastscotlandscouts.org.uk or the Regional Office (info@southeastscotlandscouts.org.uk) at present. We will then be able to offer some media coverage at a number of the events happening across the Region over the following year - the more notice we have the better!
