Windsor 2011

September 20, 2010 at 8:26 AM

The National Scout Service and Parade is an annual event which is held at Windsor Castle as near to St George’s Day as possible. It is later than usual next year (1 May 2011) due to Easter being late in April and the availability of the Royal Chapel.

The National Scout Service and Parade is an opportunity for both adults and young people who have achieved awards to celebrate their achievement.

The day has many elements; the morning provides an opportunity for our adult award holders to attend a public service in St George’s Chapel inside Windsor Castle and the afternoon sees the National Parade of Queen’s Scouts and the Service. The event allows the recipients of the Queen’s Scout Award to parade through the Quadrangle of Windsor Castle and be reviewed by a representative of the Royal Family. They will then attend the National Scout Service. Throughout the afternoon Good Service and Gallantry Award holders are invited to observe the parade within the castle.

As in past years, there will be a selection held across the UK for six young people who hold the Queen’s Scout Award (or are nearly finished) to form the Colour Party which leads the Parade. We are also looking for four others to become the Service Planning Team who will prepare and deliver the National Scout Service. Additionally, we are lookin227_Windsor_Parade.jpgg to recruit some young adults to take on the role of Section Leader within the Parade - this requires an ability to relate to young people, march and teach the skills required for the day.

Further details

Please do not allow any issues associated with travelling to prevent any young person from making an application. Once applications are submitted, we will be able to establish if additional selections may be needed in specific locations (ie Scotland, Northern Ireland and Wales). Please remember that in order to be eligible for selection, young people should already hold the Queen’s Scout Award or be participating in the award scheme and nearly finished.

UK Headquarters will meet the costs of travel, accommodation and food for the selected Queen’s Scouts attending the training and rehearsal weekends and for the actual Parade weekend. Additionally, we will meet the costs for providing uniform for Members of the Colour Party and the Service Planning Team. No Queen’s Scout should be out of pocket as a result of being selected.

Should you have any questions about the parade or the selection process please do not hesitate to contact a member of the team on 020 8433 7138 or email windsor@scouts.org.uk.

Many thanks,

The Scout Association
