Scott Burton our newly appointed local development officer.
Scott joins us on a three year project funded by grant from the national Development Grants Board of 50% of total costs and the balance raised from a number of sources including the districts of the region. He will be involved in a wide ranging development programme which has been put together following discussions with districts and looks to starting new groups and sections and encouraging the opening of additional sections to cope with waiting list issues across the Region. Scott will be working in all ten districts but not at the same time and a process will be shortly notified to DCs about how to seek his support for local projects.
Scott has been a leader and we will ask him now to introduce himself to you all….
"Whether as a young person or serving young people, I have been involved in Scouting, or some form of youth work, for the majority of my life; I grew up through Cubs, Scouts and Venture Scouts, became a leader in my local group, went off to study Youth Work in Glasgow, and worked as a youth worker for the last 6 years in local communities in Edinburgh. Being part of the Scout movement greatly shaped who I am today and I gained so much from the opportunities I was given to be involved locally and internationally through Scouting. I have been out of direct involvement with the Scouts for the last few years, but my passion for young people, adventure, the outdoors, good friendships, and the equipping and nurturing of others has continued to grow from the seeds that were planted during those early days of Scouting. I am excited to have this opportunity to be involved once again in the Scout movement and I am full of anticipation at what we will accomplish together for the benefit of young people and communities across the Region!"
