Scouting Profiles of The New DC's

Colin Brough

I am Edinburgh born and bred and was a Cub, Scout and Leader within the city, latterly as a Scout section leader in Merchiston District.  I’ve worked in long standing groups and have also been part of a team that established a brand new group in an area of the city where no Scouting was taking place.  This was probably the greatest challenge and rewarding experience of my Scouting life.  During my Wood Badge training, I met a German scout leader and our two groups formed a close working relationship, which involved several trips by both groups to each others’ countries.  They remain friends to this day. I am a big believer in the global community of Scouting and the shared benefits within it.

I have worked in the marketing sector of the drinks industry for over sixteen years, mainly with Guinness Plc., and have recently made a change in my life and headed back to University currently working my way through my Masters and PhD at Edinburgh University.

After a break from Scouting for work and family life, I am looking forward to taking up my role as DC of the newly formed District in April this year.

Jenny Tait- McGillivray

I am married with two boys aged 4 & 6 and live in South Edinburgh.  I have been in Guiding and Scouting since 1979. I joined the 75th Liberton Scout Group in 1987 as a Venture Scout.  My roles have included Assistant Beaver Scout and Cub Scout Leader.  I ran a Beaver Scout Colony in Bristol in the early 90’s and set up a Guide Company in Munich, Germany in the late 90’s running it until my return to Edinburgh in 2001.  Since then I have been the ACSL & CSL at the 75th Blackford Scout Group.  I have been involved in the past with the Bonaly Service Crew, Edinburgh Gang Show and training roles in both Scouting and Guiding.  I look forward to working with the leaders and young people in Pentland District.

Aileen Thomson

I have been living in South Queensferry for over ten years, with Ian and two of my three daughters all who are or have been involved in Scouting for most of their lives.  I joined Scouting in 1979 shortly after moving to Edinburgh, becoming an AVSL in Colinton and then VSL at that Unit.  I then moved to Balerno and started a new Unit there and became very involved with Longcraig which I continued with after stepping back from sectional commitment.  I have been a DC for just over seven years starting in Pentlands and Almond Valley which was split at Regionalisation and I moved with some of the Groups to Inverleith.  I look forward to the challenge of the new District and working with leaders who are new to me.
