NEWS FROM THE BORDERS
Cubs reach for the skies
On 12 March over 100 Cub Scouts from 8 packs from the length and breadth of the Borders braved a very snowy morning to make it to the Museum of Flight at East Fortune for the Borders District Cub event. There they were shown round Concorde and an accompanying exhibition and film. After that, split into their Packs, they were given worksheets to help them complete the Air Activities badge, with many of the answers to be found in the various hangars around the airfield. Most of the Cubs, and indeed the leaders and helpers really enjoyed the interactive Fantastic Flight exhibition which had lots of hands on activities including a flight simulator and an airship simulator. Packed lunches were taken in the education centre and we reconvened under Concorde at the end for a group photo (see the Regional website!). Three hours had flown by, the rain and snow had held off, everyone had had fun and may even have learnt a thing or two. The staff commented on the excellent behaviour of all the cubs, so congratulations to them. Finally a huge thanks to the Museum, and especially to Linda who helped organize the day, and Paul and Reuben who were on hand to make sure the event ran smoothly.
Michael Scott-Watson ADC (Cub Scouts) Borders District.
Borders District Explorer Scouts held a Brass Monkey Camp at Kirknewton, near Wooler in March.
There were 18 Explorers from Borders District and in our continuing cooperation across the Border, also Explorer Scouts from Northumberland at the camp. A great time was had by all!
The snowy pictures on the Region website show the underfoot conditions.
Beaver Scouts, Cub Scouts and Scouts from Innerleithen and Cardrona Groups joined with the GirlGuiding to wear uniforms to St Ronan's and Walkerburn Primary schools for Founders/Thinking Day in February. There are great pictures on the Region website of this day too.
