As we go to press we hear strong rumours of new sections beginning in Longniddry , a Cub Scout pack and an Explorer Scout Unit to add to Beavers and Scouts and in the west of Edinburgh Pentland District have been recruiting for a new group in the greater Wester Hailes area with a series of promotions at local supermarkets and in local schools.
East Lothian held a very successful camp at East Fortune earlier in the summer with Cubs, Scouts and Explorers camping and Beavers joining in the activities too.
Haymarket are holding their AGM on 14th September at the Red Cross HQ at North Gyle Terrace at 7.30 p.m.
In Borders the new Explorer Scout unit at Kelso was successful in gaining money from the Cashback for Communities fund administered by SHQ to support new sections and in Inverleith the new Explorer Scout unit for the east of the district also received a grant from this fund. A grant was also made to support activities in a troop in Midlothian
Pentland have been planning development events and display in a variety of locations and are seeking to establish a new group in the district. The Scout section are currently planning a weekend district camp at Fordell in mid September.
Blackford district had strong representation on the staff at Blair Atholl where the patrol from the district had queues at their stall on visitors day. The attraction….deep fried mars bars!!
In Portobello one group received a welcome windfall when one of their leaders gained a matched funding cash award from their employers of £500, matching their voluntary effort as a leader. It is worth checking if your employer operates a similar scheme.
Scouts from Morningside travelled to Holland for their summer camp and in Leith one troop celebrated their centenary by travelling to the United States for a camp.
